"Christmas - A Celebration of the Anointed One"
INTRODUCTION
In today's modern society, we see various images around Christmas time. We see images of Santa Claus, reindeer, elves, Christmas trees and snowmen. For children, Christmas is the most anticipated day of the year. The most common tradition is for family and friends to open gifts given to them by others. However, modern commercialism has exploited this tradition for monetary gain. People, especially children, think it is all about giving and receiving presents. All the while forgetting or not even realizing that God gave us the greatest gift of all on Christmas, the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I believe that Satan has intentionally promoted all of these secular traditions and rebranded pagan rituals of the Christmas and winter solstice seasons in order to to take people's eyes and minds off of Jesus, who is the real reason for the season.
WHAT DOES THE WORD "CHRISTMAS" MEAN?
The word "Christmas" can be broken down into two parts. The first part, "Christ" is a transliteration of the original Greek word "Christos" which translates to "The Anointed One". The second part, the suffix "-mas" means a "festival or celebration". Therefore, the word "Christmas" literally means, "A celebration of the Anointed One". This is the true meaning of Christmas. This is why Jesus Christ is truly the reason for the season!
CHRISTMAS, NOT XMAS
In modern times there has been a growing trend, especially in secular circles, to abbreviate "Christmas" as 'Xmas". Most assume this is just done out of pure laziness. However, I believe it is an intentional thing promoted by Satan. You should never say or write 'Xmas", because when you do you are effectively "X-ing out" Christ out of Christmas. Everyone, especially us Christians, should ALWAYS say and write "Merry Christmas", or as my own pastor likes to say, "Merry CHRISTmas". Always keep Christ in Christmas because Jesus is the reason for the season.
